About Reckless Media

Every trail starts somewhere.
Here's where ours began.

We're a small team of marketers, filmmakers, designers, and web builders in Little Rock, Arkansas. We help businesses get noticed, get leads, and get results.

We named it
Reckless for a reason.

Reckless Media started the way a lot of things in Central Arkansas do. Somebody got tired of how things were and decided to do something about it.

That was over eight years ago. Cody and Elaine Johnston had spent years watching agencies talk a big game and deliver the same recycled playbook, complete with bloated retainers, junior staff doing the actual work, and reports full of numbers that meant nothing to the owners signing the checks.

So they built something different. A company small enough to care, skilled enough to compete with the big shops, and honest enough to tell you when something isn't working.

The name "Reckless" isn't about being careless. It's about being willing to take the path nobody else will, to try things the safe agencies would never pitch, and to bet on ourselves and our clients instead of playing it safe with recycled strategies.

We're based in Little Rock because this is home, and we understand small businesses here because we are one. Two founders, a small team behind them, and a client roster we actually know by name.

That's what we do, no jargon, no 40-page reports, just work that moves the needle.

What We Believe

The things we won't budge on.

01

Real People, Not Robots

When you call us, you talk to the people doing the work. No account managers reading from a script. No "let me check with the team and get back to you." The person on the phone is the person building your campaign.

02

Results Over Reports

We'd rather show you ten new leads than a 40-page PDF with pie charts. Reporting matters, but if the only thing an agency can show you is a fancy document, something is wrong.

03

Off Trail On Purpose

We don't follow the same playbook every other agency uses. If the "industry standard" approach isn't getting results, we'll find a different path. That's kind of our whole thing.

04

Your Business Is Our Business

We succeed when you succeed. It's that simple. We don't nickel-and-dime. We don't pad hours. If we can do something in 30 minutes, we're not going to bill you for two hours.

The Founders

Two people. One team behind us.

Cody Johnston, co-founder of Reckless Media

Cody Johnston

Co-Founder · Podcast Host · Audio Engineer · Videographer · Paid Ads & Organic Marketing

Cody has been producing podcasts since 2013, which is probably why clean audio became the thing he got obsessive about. Every episode that leaves the studio gets the same treatment: tight edits, consistent sound, and none of the weird artifacts that pull a listener out of a conversation. Before podcasting, he was making music, and that background still shapes how he hears everything he edits.

His work spans graphic design, videography, audio production, and paid advertising. Over the years he has made logos and ad spots for clients like Minor League Baseball, Hardee's, and Arby's, alongside video work for addiction treatment centers and churches. The smaller projects tend to matter more to him than the big brand work.

On the marketing side, Cody runs paid ads across Google, Meta, and YouTube next to organic growth strategy, usually both on the same client, because one without the other is half a plan. His approach is practical: figure out the two or three channels that actually work for your business, stop spending on the ones that don't, and measure what matters in dollars instead of vanity metrics.

Outside the studio, he composes instrumental music. Over 70 tracks and counting, from piano meditations to ambient scores made for people who want their everyday moments to feel like an adventure.

Elaine Johnston, co-founder of Reckless Media

Elaine Johnston

Co-Founder · Podcast Host · Copywriter · Brand Strategist · Graphic Designer

Elaine wears a lot of hats, figuratively and literally, and yes, you should see her collection.

She started writing online in 2011 with her first WordPress blog, back when she was mostly publishing run-on sentences about college life and learning SEO the hard way. Since then she has written for school newspapers, the Odyssey, and podcast scripts all the way through school. By 2020 that had turned into a steady roster of clients across the country: recovery centers, financial advisors, HR professionals, caregivers, non-profits, and entrepreneurs of every flavor. Her job on all of it stays the same, which is helping each one sound like themselves and actually say something worth reading.

A psychology degree, a background in entrepreneurship, and a lifelong interest in writing is the mix that lets her sit down with almost any client and figure out what they want to say before worrying about how to say it.

Today Elaine helps artists, business owners, and creatives connect with the people they're trying to reach, through copy that converts, social that sounds human, graphic design that holds a brand together, and the strategy behind all of it. She also runs her own accounts, with over a million combined views across Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok, which means the playbook she teaches clients is one she runs on herself first.

You'll also find her on stage talking about the power of podcasting, sitting with clients on how to grow without burning out, or coaching women on how to turn their wardrobe into part of their personal brand.

Cody and Elaine hiking with Doppler

Or: why everything on this site looks like a trail map.

Whatever extra time the work allows usually gets spent outside. Cody, Elaine, their Siberian husky Doppler, and a tent worth more than any of them want to admit. Hiking trails, national parks, fireside coffee at dawn, the occasional weekend at the koi pond or in the garden.

Cody starts most mornings with a cold plunge and a book, and you can usually find him composing instrumental music for the outdoor moments that call for a soundtrack. Elaine will be in a coffee shop with a novel and something warm, or chipping away at the next podcast episode while Doppler naps under the table.

That's not unrelated to the work. Every brand metaphor on this site comes from a trail, a campsite, a ridge line, or a radio tower we actually sat under. The outdoors isn't a theme we borrowed for marketing. It's how we live when nobody's paying us to do anything.

On Stage

When we're not in the studio, we're teaching.

You'll see us at ARKAST, student conferences, and workshops across Arkansas. We bring the same strategy we use with clients, just shared out loud with whoever's listening.
